Notable Book Projects

These are the most notable book projects I’ve worked on in varying capacities as noted below.

Hibernation and Other New York Stories by Elaine Simon
(Personal Project)

The first book I worked on was Kevin Asano’s Step Onto the Mat in 2004. I was working at A-1 A-Lectrician, Inc. and Jimmy Yamada, the owner of A-1, connected me with Kevin. Kevin needed help pushing this project over the finish line, so I helped organize, proofread, and edit the manuscript. The book chronicles Kevin’s judo journey from Hawaii to Japan and then Korea to compete in the 1988 Summer Olympics, where he won the silver medal.

For Cancer Center of Hawaii: A Personal Remembrance, Mary Piette, an old family friend, reached out to me for help in 2017 to put this all together. She wanted to memorialize the work her husband Larry had done to create the Cancer Center of Hawaii. She had a stack of papers that included copies of old memos, letters, and legislation. I scanned in all the papers, cleaned up each page (many pages had old black spots or markings), and helped proofread her introduction. Then I laid out the book and self published it on her behalf. This book had special significance, because my dad had worked with Larry at the Cancer Center.

Also in 2017, I decided to finally publish my own work in Hibernation and Other New York Stories. It is a small book comprised of old pieces from my college years.
